Child Sponsorship Program - Staff Profile
Ying Singkhon

Ying Singkhon
I thank God for always leading my life. I come from a Christian family with 5 children. I have 2 older brothers and 2 older sisters. We were all very happy, until tragedy struck and my father died in a car accident. Soon after that my oldest sister died because of a dangerous illness. When we lost the leader of the family, everyone in the family faced a difficult situation. My mother had to carry all the burdens. Mom had to work so hard in order to pay for our school fees and all other expenses. I hoped that when I grew up, I would study hard, earn lots of money and give it all to my mom. So when I finished Grade 12, I decided to go to Bangkok to study at a seminary. I graduated after 4 years and continue to serve God in a local church. I was working with children while I studied. After that I worked for Compassion, first as an information officer, and then was promoted to the project manager 8 years later. During this time, I met my husband to be and we married. My husband is a pastor who loves God very much. We were always co-partners in serving God. One day, I found out that I had a growth in my uterus so I had to quit working and have an operation. After that I went home to Chiang Rai for on-going recuperation. During this time God gave me a burden in my heart to work with children, it was the same time my husband’s term with the church was coming to an end. We were free to pursue God’s will and pioneer a new work with the church in a new location that God planned for us.

One day, I saw in my dream a picture of a woman calling me to serve her. And here in Chiang Rai, I heard about the Project LIFE Foundation, and their
Child Sponsorship Program that was looking for another member of staff to help Amarin a dedicated woman who has worked for the project for 2 years on her own. It was the perfect chance to work with the local children. Without any hesitation, I applied and I was given the opportunity to work with the program in November 2005. I love to work with children just because they would normally be neglected by society. So the opportunity to serve God through this ministry is such a great and wonderful experience for me. It also allows me to be a witness to the children. We do creative activities every Saturday and Sunday in order to help them to learn more about God’s love and to use spare-time effectively. They also learn some music, singing worship songs, playing guitar and fun games.

My husband has pioneered a new church. It’s not too far from my office, so the church can support the out-reach work with the children. My husband and I started all the work by faith, we started with nothing at all, we believe that God will look after our family as we begin this new church plant in this area. One thing that God has given us in order to encourage us is our new baby who is still in my womb. I am now 5 months into pregnancy and I am sure he/she would like to take part in our new work, too.

I thank God that my family is a part of his plan and we are willing and happy to commit to serve Him in this children’s ministry.
